Business credit and funding questions
The questions owners ask us most, answered plainly. More specific answers live on each service page.
Building business credit
What is the fastest way to build business credit?
Get the foundation right first (entity, EIN, business address and phone, consistent listings), make sure each business bureau has a file on you, then open vendor accounts that report on-time payments. Paying those early and on time is what moves your scores. Rushing to apply for bank cards before that usually ends in declines.
What are net 30 accounts?
Vendor accounts that let your business buy now and pay within 30 days. The ones that matter for credit report your payments to Dun & Bradstreet, Experian or Equifax business, which is how a new business builds its first trade lines.
Does an LLC have its own credit score?
Yes. Businesses have their own credit files with Dun & Bradstreet, Experian and Equifax, with scores such as PAYDEX and Intelliscore. They are separate from your personal FICO score, though many lenders look at both.
How do I get a DUNS number?
Dun & Bradstreet issues DUNS numbers free of charge through its website. Having one is a first step toward a Dun & Bradstreet business credit file. We check that yours exists and is accurate as part of CBM Funding Max.
Loans and funding
How hard is it to get a $100,000 business loan?
It is very doable for an established business with steady revenue, a few years of history and decent credit. Lenders look at annual revenue, cash flow and existing debt first. Newer businesses usually need collateral, a strong personal credit profile or an SBA program to get there.
Can an LLC get grant funding?
Some can, but grants are rare, competitive and usually tied to a specific purpose, location or owner group. Most growing businesses are funded with credit and loans. If a local grant or program fits your business, we will point you to it.
How much does a business funding consultant cost?
It varies by firm and by what you need. Our strategy session and loan pre-qualification are free. CBM Funding Max has published pricing on its page, and any fee for funding work is explained in writing before anything is submitted.
Will you share my information with lenders?
Only with your permission and only with lenders for programs you choose to pursue. See our privacy policy for details.
